Book Blogger Hop 15

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books.

This week's question is:

What's your favorite candy?

What a good question... I don't really like most candy. I don't like sugar for it's own sake, although I do like sweet things. I do like chocolate. Hmmm. If I had to pick, I guess I'd say Reese's Peanut Butter cups.

When I was very young, one of the first movies I ever saw was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder. The movie gave me nightmares! Sure, sure, everyone's scared of the Oompa Loompas, but the scary boat ride, the girl who blows up into a blueberry, the scene where they lick wallpaper and fly away? The whole thing is full of trippy moments like that. In grade school, I was encouraged to read the book, and not judge it by the movie... but the opening scene has four decrepit grandparents all sleeping in the same bed which seemed a little creepy to me too. I've harbored a deep distrust of Mr. Roald Dahl ever since.

  1. Goodness, I didn't think there was anything freakier or trippier than the boat ride in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. As a kid, I didn't really freak out about much more than that part, but I will say the flying too high towards the fan was a little unsettling. You notice more about movies when you're older. :) Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend!

  3. Hmmm...I was going to join the hop this week 'cause I finally have time to and it's not even about books. Guess I won't bother.

But I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and that scary-ass boat ride in the movie still creeps me out--and that song! "There is no earthly way of knowing..."

  6. Thanks for thinking about the kids that have peanut allergies and giving something too. My son has a nut allergy and it's always been hard when we have to take 1/2 his trick or treat bag because of nuts. Thanks for stopping by. have a great weekend!!

  7. Oh I love Dahl...I teach his short story "Lamb to the Slaughter" in English class. The kids love it because it's so twisted.

  9. @DJL - Yes, I know what you mean! Ha, your profile pic is a photo of Shiver? That's awesome. I just finished reading Forever... loved it.

@Beth D. - Reese's Pieces always make me think of ET - old school.

@Andrea - we are totally on the same page, I see.

@Crowe - The question wasn't about books, but I made it about books. When I think, "candy. books." I always think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I don't remember that song - I must have blocked it out!

@Christy - Thanks! Yeah, so I'm planning on handing out lots of Halloween jewelry this year, I'm really curious if kids will like it or not.
