In My (Library) Mailbox

No matter how hard I try, it always seems that books I have on interlibrary loan come in at the same time! You'd think that with the advantage of being a professional librarian, and with my obsessive-compulsive habit of checking the library website every day, in order to assess how my holds are coming along, I would somehow be able to prevent this.

No such
luck! Somehow, I always seem to get swamped with everything in one go. This following pile, I was anywhere from 1st in line, 3rd in line, even 27th in line... yet, here they all are, all at once.

Let's take
a look, shall we?

Here's the list of titles:
Words in the Dust - Trent Reedy
Eliza's Freedom Road - Jerdine Nolan
The Latte Rebellion - Sarah J. Stevenson
Alchemy and Meggy Swann - Karen Cushman
The Education of Bet - Lauren Baratz Logstead
Infinite Days - Rebecca Maizel
Young Fredle - Cynthia Voigt
I Was Jane Austen's Best Friend - Cora Harrison
Dead Beautiful - Yvonne Wood
Firelight - Sophie Jordan

This is why my heart always goes out to my library patrons who complain when this happens to them, that they can't possibly get everything read before the due date, and could they pleeease have a little extension? On the other hand... I know how frustrating it is to wait. And wait. And wait. For that uber-popular book that everyone is in queue for. Which explains why I sometimes capriciously help out a patron by renewing their books, and sometimes I won't!

  2. I love the cover for Infinite Days... you can't really see here, but she has a bright blue tear rolling down her cheek, and there's a slight hint of sparkle to the whole cover. Gorgeous!

  3. I only read Infinite Days the other night and I really enjoyed it. I hope you do, too! As for Firelight, I didn't like it very much :\ I hope your opinion is different! Happy reading!

  7. I hear you on the checking the library site a bit compulsively. I am so guilty of that. I have the Education of Bet too. It seems like it's going to be a fun read when I (hopefully before the due date) read it. Infinite Days is awesome too. So is Fire Light. Enjoy!

  8. I loved Infinite Days so much, I can't wait to read your thoughts on it! I really enjoyed Firelight as well, you don't read too many books dealing with dragons so it was a nice change of pace. Enjoy your fantastic selection Madigan!

  11. Thanks for dropping by my blog, and all of your thoughtful comments on my most recent "Find the Gap" post! I totally have the same thing happen to me with the library — all of a sudden the books I've ordered will flood in and I will end up with huge piles at home and not know which one to start reading first :D

  12. LOL! Yes, I'll wait and wait and wait (all the while compulsively checking the status of my holds). It'll be nothing for weeks and weeks and then all at once they'll all come in. I had two four hundred plus page books plus a few other books come in all at once. This phenomenon is a running joke with my patrons. It's funny to see that it happens in your library as well.

I really enjoyed The Education of Bet. It was light and fun. Firelight I liked less, but it has a very Twilight romance feel to it so if you like that then I think you'll like Firelight. Same with Dead Beautiful. Firelight ends on a gigantic cliffhanger.

Good luck getting through all your books! At least you know you have some happy reading ahead of you :)

  13. @ Rhiannon Wait a minute! Aren't you in Toronto? They have a world-class library! I'm sure they have all these books and more. You should check them out, plus once you master the holds system, you can end up like me... with more books than you know what to do with.
